Vintage Neuwirth Numbered Strawberry Palissy Ware Dishes & Pitcher Portugal

Vintage Neuwirth strawberry motif ceramic Palissy Ware dishes, set of 6, made in Portugal.
Also included is a lovely pitcher for water, tea or lemonade. Palissy ware is a 19th-century term for ceramics produced in the style of the famous French potter Bernard Palissy (c. 1510–90), who referred to his own work in the familiar manner as rustique ("in the rustic style"). It is therefore also known as rusticware.
The production of Paliisy ware began in Portugal around 1880, centered on the town of Caldas da Rainha.

This quite unique set of plates are hand-painted and a wonderful addition to any pottery collection. Each plate is numbered and still has the Neuwirth label on the bottom. This set is in good vintage condition, with mild wear and some flea bites. The inside of the pitcher has some minor cracks in the glaze. None of this affects the beauty and charm of this handcrafted and handpainted set.
